In a wide-ranging interview with Empire, Derrickson revealed many details about his participation to the MCU, and the most amazing of all is that it is Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, who offered the face motion-capture & voice for Strange’s intergalactic adversary:
“The purpose for that was threefold. One, Benedict recommended it. , the masterdom of his voice — he was Smaug, of course. [3,] he recognized exactly who Dormammu was. He is the greatest cosmic narcissist. There was something excellent about the replicated relationship between the two of them.”
That is not the only bombshell Derrickson falls in his newest talk. He reveals that both James Gunn and Taika Waititi taken moments for Doctor Strange — particularly, the Stan Lee cameo and the Thor post-credits stinger, respectively. Furthermore, he says that Nightmare was almost the film’s bad guy, until Marvel bigwig Kevin Feige made the decision that describing that bad guy’s Dream Dimension would create the story line too complex.
And most tantalizing of all? In a new individual in Strange’s hospital who’s been hit by lightning, Doctor Strange may have sown the seeds for Marvel’s future Captain Marvel featuring Brie Larson. On that subject, which Errico also addressed in his content last weekend, Derrickson continues to be coy.
Lovers will certainly continue looking for such Easter eggs in Doctor Strange, which is now playing in cinemas across the country.
